I was able to participate in the Certified Nursing Assistant Program at the MTECH college in Spanish Fork, Utah. It was in session for a period of 10 weeks and I was able to learn so much. Class was Monday-Friday from 7:30-10:30am. The instructor was able to show us power points and movies, while also teaching us important skills that come with working in a healthcare setting. In Utah, it is required to have 100 hours of training and 24 clinical hours. My clinicals were held at the Veterans Home in Payson, Utah.

My main goals at the beginning of the course were to participate in hands-on experiences, receive career guidance, and to pass the skills and written exam to officially become a CNA. By completing the course, I can now work in rehab or in an assisted living home, and I can care for those who need extra assistance in performing their activities of daily living. While I was participating in hands-on experiences, I was able to learn the techniques and skills necessary to assist residents. It is important to learn these skills so patients are less likely to get injured or harmed during personal care. Before I started the course, I was set on becoming a Pediatrician. As a CNA, you are able to work in Labor and Delivery. When we learned about this, my career path changed. I was able to receive the career guidance that I was looking for, and because of this, I can continue my schooling at SUU while keeping the end goal of becoming an OBGYN in mind.
